Yego gets final chance in Zurich to pick Diamond League final ticket

African Games Javelin champion, Julius Yego will be at the Weltklasse Diamond League meeting, the penultimate Diamond League meeting in Zurich, Switzerland where he will have the chance to fight for one of the available for spots still on offer for the Diamond League final on September 13 at the Memorial van Damme in Brussels, Belgium.

The Kenyan will however have to be at his 2015 best when he became the first black African and second African to win a Javelin throw gold at the World Athletics Championships to stand a chance of becoming one of the six athletes that will compete in Brussels.

Peters Anderson of Grenada and Valdlejch Jakub have picked two of the six tickets with 21 and 16 points respectively while reigning World Champion, India’s Chopra Neeraj and Weber Julian of Germany have one leg in the final with the 14 points each they have garnered.

Yego is down in 10th with four points garnered from his eight place finish in Doha in May and sixth place finish in Lausanne.

The 35 years old will need to win in Zurich to be able to stand a chance of going to Brussels which however looks like a tall order going by his performances so far this year.

The Kenyan is still expected to give it his final throw to see where it will land him.

Yego will not be lacking support in Zurich as Olympics 5000m and 10000m champion, Beatrice Chebet and reigning World champion and Olympic bronze medal winner in the 800m, Mary Moraa have also been confirmed for the meeting.
