‘Yes, I Know. I’m Nigerian’: Ethan Nwaneri Leaves International Future Open

Ethan Nwaneri’s international future remains uncertain, with the 18-year-old eligible to represent Nigeria, England, or France.

Born in England to a Nigerian father and an English-French mother, Nwaneri has already featured for England at youth level but continues to embrace his Nigerian heritage.

Speaking to R.org about former Nigerian internationals Taye Taiwo and Wilson Oruma, who previously played for Olympique Marseille, he said: ‘Yes, I know. I’m Nigerian, and I am here to help the team (Olympique Marseille) as much as possible.’

His comments come as speculation grows over which country he will ultimately choose.

Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle was spotted at the Stade Vélodrome during Marseille’s French Cup victory over Rennes last week.

While Chelle was officially present to welcome newly signed Nigerian midfielder Tochukwu Nnadi, his attendance has fueled talk about Nwaneri’s future.

The midfielder’s decision is expected to be closely watched, with Nigeria, England, and France all keen to secure his services as he continues to develop at Marseille.
