Zurich Diamond League winner, Mary Moraa dreams of running on the big stage with her sister
Mary Moraa ran an impressive 1:57.08 to win the 800m event at the Weltklasse Diamond League meet in Zurich, Switzerland on Thursday night and hopes to run on the global stage with her sister, Sarah Moraa who conquered the world in the two full laps race at the U20 level last week in Lima, Peru.
While Mary has been one of the best at the senior level, winning the World title in 2023 at the World Athletics championships in Budapest, Hungary, and finishing third at the Paris 2024 Olympics, her sister has however become the best at the U20 level, running 2:00.36 to win the title in Lima.
The new world 600m record holder has not only congratulated her sister publicly for achieving what she (Mary) could not achieve at the U20 level (finished fifth in at U20 in 2018 and second at U18 a year earlier), she is also looking to race alongside her at the Olympics, World Championships and at the Diamond League circuit.
‘I am training together with my sister and with the same coach so I am very proud that she won a gold medal at the World U20 Championships. I have been mentoring her so she can follow my footsteps. My dream is to be able to be race with her in the big stage,’ said Mary Moraa who reveals she wants to finish the season strongly.
‘My plan is to finish my season in a good way, but I leave everything to God. After Paris, the training has not been running well because after each two days you are running another event so it´s hard. The training that I did over the last 7 months it is the one that I am using.’
