‘10.49? I think I am capable of anything,’ says Jamaican sprinter, Shericka Jackson

World 200m champion, Shericka Jackson says she is capable of breaking the 10.49 world 100m record held by Florence Griffith-Joyner.

The Jamaican served notice of her intention at the Jamaican Championships early this month when she scorched to a 10.65 finish to move top of the world list and joint fifth fastest all-time.

Jackson, 28, told a press conference in Silesia, Poland ahead of the eighth Diamond League meeting on Sunday that she is capable of anything.

‘I think anything is possible. For me there is no limit to what I am capable of, not because I just started sprinting two years ago.

‘Once I work on my weak areas and maintain my strong areas, I think anything is possible,’ said the Jamaican who began track and field as a 400m runner.

She was third in the 400m at the World championships twice (2015 and 2019) and was a member of the Jamaican 4x400m team that won gold in 2015 and silver at the 2016 Olympics.

Since she moved to the shorter sprint, Jackson has won gold in the 200m at the Oregon World championships in 2022 and silver in the 100m at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.

This year, she has competed twice in the Diamond League, finishing second in Doha and third in Oslo. She will fancy her chances of winning in Silesia on Sunday.
