Lagos is set to reinforce its reputation as Africa’s sports hub when it hosts the 11th edition of the Lagos City Marathon on February 14, 2026.
This year’s race will feature a new 42.195km race beginning at ORCA Mall on Ahmadu Bello Way, Victoria Island, and stretching through sections of the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Road. The course is designed not only to test endurance but also to showcase the city’s evolving landscape, with special emphasis on the iconic Eko Atlantic City.
Organizers expect over 100,000 runners to take part in both the full marathon and the 10-kilometre race. The 42.195km race will flag off at 6:30 a.m. and close at noon, while the 10km event will begin at 9:30 a.m. and also finish by midday.
Elite athletes will compete for top prizes, with winners in the men’s and women’s marathon categories earning up to $50,000. Cash rewards will extend to the eighth position.
Nigerian runners will also vie for domestic prizes, ranging from ₦2 million for first place to ₦50,000 for lower finishers. In the 10km race, the male and female winners will each receive ₦500,000, with prizes awarded down to fifth place.
Having consistently staged the Gold Label marathon for more than a decade, Lagos has cemented its place as a premier destination for road racing.
The event continues to attract global attention, positioning the city as a leader in promoting active lifestyles and creating a world-class platform for athletes.
