13th African Games: Can Usoro make history by stopping Brume from also making history

After winning the triple jump gold Tuesday evening for her first ever win at the African Games, Ruth Usoro will be seeking to add the long jump gold to her triple jump gold and become in the process the first Nigerian woman to successfully complete a triple jump and long jump double in the history of the Games.                                                         To achieve this, Usoro will have to scale the formidable hurdle in the form of Commonwealth, World Indoor and World Outdoor medalist, Ese Brume. Brume will be seeking a piece of history herself if she successfully defends the long jump gold she won at the 12th edition of the Games five years ago. If she wins, the 28 year old will become the first Nigerian woman since 1978 (after Modupe Oshikoya , 1973 and 1978) to successfully defend a long jump title. Brume and Usoro have met 16 times at the long jump pit since they both first faced off in April 2014 with the former victorious in all including the final of the World indoor championships in 2022, Commonwealth Games also in 2022, the world outdoor championships in 2023 and last at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in New York, USA.
