2022 Diamond League Final: Amusan In, Brume Out

The Wanda Diamond League will reach its climax this Wednesday and Thursday with only sprint hurdler, Tobi Amusan as the only Nigerian among the world’s best athletes that will battle it out for the prestigious Diamond Trophy in Zurich.

With the release of the final entry lists for the season finale, long jumper, Ese Brume’s hopes of replacing any of the six qualified athletes, particularly Great Britain’s Lorraine Ugen who has not competed since she finished fifth at the Commonwealth Games early August have been dashed.

Brume finished seventh in the qualification ranking and could have been the next athlete to replace any athlete that decides to withdraw for whatever reason but non, so far has indicated interest in pulling out.

The women’s long jump event will now take place without the number two best athlete in the world participating.

Brume won silver at the World Athletics Championships indoors and outdoor this year before adding the Commonwealth Games gold and Games record to it last month in Birmingham.

Meanwhile Amusan will be seeking to be among the 32 Wanda Diamond League champions that will be crowned this week at the Letzigrund Stadium on Thursday.

The Nigerian will actually be defending the Diamond league trophy she won at the same venue last year.
