2022 World Cup play-off: Ghana to name eight debutantes for Nigeria match

Ghana interim coach Otto Addo will hand debut invitations to eight players for the two matches, according to media reports in Ghana.
New faces like Bristol City of England forward Antoine Elorm Semenyo, former Netherlands U-20 star Leeroy Owusu who plays in the Eredivise for Willem II, AS Roma’s Felix Afena-Gyan, KAA Gent defensive midfielder Elisha Owusu amongst others will be seen in the Ghana team for the crucial tie.
Meanwhile, Crystal Palace star Jeffrey Schlupp has been named in the Ghana squad for game.
The former Leicester City midfielder last played for the Black Stars in November 2019 in the World Cup qualifiers against Ethiopia in Cape Coast.
He picked up an hamstring injury and returned to his club for recovery.
Schlupp missed Ghana’s squad for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations due to the injury.
After an impressive run in the Premier League for Crystal Palace, the 29-year-old has received an invite from the Black Stars technical team for the doubleheader against Nigeria.
The Black Stars list is expected to be announced later this week.
Ghana will host West African rivals Nigeria in the first leg of the crucial tie on Friday, March 25, 2022 at the Cape Coast Stadium.
The Super Eagles will welcome the Black Stars to the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja for the second leg which takes place on Tuesday, March 29, 2022.
Addo was given the nod to lead the Black Stars for the play-offs following the sacking of Serbian trainer Milovan Rajevac after an embarrassing AFCON 2021 campaign.
He will be assisted by former Dutch international George Boateng and Mas-Ud Didi Dramani to face the Super Eagles.
Former Newcastle United and Brighton manager Chris Hughton will be technical advisor to the team for the two-legged games.
