Irish teenager, Abbie Larkin says they want to end campaign with a win against Nigeria
Republic of Ireland’s 18 year old player, Abbie Larkin says she and the rest of the team have promised to end their 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup campaign with
a win.
The Irish team have been knocked out of the tournament after losing their opening two games against co-host Australia and Canada but Larkin is confident they
can beat Nigeria on Monday in Brisbane.
‘Obviously we’re hoping to go in and win. That’s our main goal. I think we have that in our locker. After all we’ve been through in the tournament, I think
it would be great if we could end with a win.
‘That’s what all the girls are hoping for. Just get a win and make our fans proud. They came all the way over to support us. [Nigeria] are going to be really
tough. They got the win against Australia. They’re strong, they’re physical. But I think we have a good chance,’ she said in an interview with FIFA.com.
Nigeria only needs to avoid defeat to qualify for the next round but could still qualify if they lose to the Irish provided Canada defeats Australia in their
final group game.
