2023 Gyulai Istvan Memorial: Amusan, Brume and Enekwechi seeking to emulate Okagbare, George

Tobi Amusan, Ese Brume and Chukwuebuka Enekwechi will individually be seeking to become the first Nigerian athlete since 2017 to record a win at the 2023
Gyulai Istvan Memorial, a World Athletics Continental Tour Gold event in Szekesfehervar, Hungary on Tuesday.

Blessing Okagbare is the last Nigerian to win at the event after speeding to an 11.11 finish to win the 100m event in 2017. It was her thid win at
the competition following wins in the long jump (6.84m) in 2011 and 10.92 over the 100m in 2016.

Quartermiler, Reggina George also recorded a win over the full lap race when she ran 52.11 in 2014.

Amusan, Brume and Enekwechi will thus be aiming to follow in the footsteps of Okagbare and George with the world 100m hurdles champion, Tobi Amusan the
surest to finish first in her first appearance in the competition.

The 26 year old ran a new 12.34 personal season’s best at the Diamond League meeting in Silesia, Poland on Sunday and should overpower 2019 world champion,
Nia Ali who looks to be her toughest rival at the meeting.

Amusan will not only be seeking to win, she will be also inspired by her race in Silesia where she equalled the meeting record set by Olympic champion,
Jasmine Camacho-Quinn to either equal or break the Puerto Rican’s 12.34 Gyulai Istvan Memorial meeting record on Tuesday.

Brume, like Amusan is also making her first appearance at the World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meeting and the 27 year old knows she needs to start the
form that gave her World indoor and outdoor silver medals last year.

Shot Putter, Enekwechi is making a return to the meeting and will be seeking to throw farther than the 21.43m he threw to place fourth in 2021.
