2026 Commonwealth Games: Olatoye Drops Four Places in Glasgow Hammer Throw Final

Nigeria’s Oyesade Olatoye was unable to replicate her impressive performance from the last Commonwealth Games, finishing eighth in the women’s hammer throw final at Glasgow 2026 after placing fourth at Birmingham 2022.

Olatoye produced a best throw of 63.27m, achieved in the third round, but it was well short of the distances required to challenge for a medal.

The Nigerian opened with 61.90m, fouled her second attempt, before improving to 63.27m. She followed with 62.15m, another foul in the fifth round and closed with 60.65m.

Canada’s Camryn Rogers successfully defended her Commonwealth title in style, setting a new Games record of 74.91m to claim gold. New Zealand’s Lauren Bruce took silver with 69.82m, while Australia’s Lara Roberts secured bronze with a throw of 68.05m.

For Olatoye, the result represents a disappointing regression after narrowly missing the podium with a fourth-place finish at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, as she slipped four places to end eighth in Glasgow.
