2026 Diamond League: Amusan, Russell Set For 14th Head-to-Head Clash In Zurich

World 100m hurdles record holder Tobi Amusan and Olympic champion Masai Russell will renew their rivalry on Thursday at the Weltklasse Zurich, where they are set to face each other for the fourth time this season and the 14th time overall.

Both athletes have already secured their places in next week’s Wanda Diamond League final in Brussels, but there will still be plenty at stake in Zurich, the penultimate meeting of the 2026 Diamond League season.

Russell has won all three of their head-to-head meetings this season, but Amusan still holds the overall advantage in their rivalry, having won seven of their previous 13 clashes compared to the American’s six.

The Nigerian will therefore be looking to stretch her all-time lead to 8-6 and Zurich could provide the perfect setting. Amusan made history at the venue in 2021 when she became the first Nigerian woman to win the Diamond League title. She returned the following year to successfully defend her crown.

Now back in Zurich four years later, the 29-year-old will be hoping to relive those historic memories while also ending Russell’s dominance in their meetings this season.

Amusan will also have another major motivation when she takes to the track. Russell has emerged as one of the athletes capable of challenging the Nigerian’s 12.12-second world record, set at the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Eugene.
