2026 Ikogosi Marathon Returns October 31, Targets 8,000 Runners

The 2026 Ikogosi Marathon will hold on Saturday, October 31, with organisers targeting about 8,000 runners from Nigeria and abroad as the 17.5km road race seeks to deepen youth development, sports tourism and economic activity in Ekiti State.
Organised by the Ikogosi Marathon Initiative in collaboration with the Ekiti State Government, the race has received the backing of Governor Biodun Oyebanji, whose administration has reaffirmed its commitment to grassroots sports, youth empowerment and initiatives capable of stimulating economic activity across the state.
The 2026 edition will build on last year’s race, which attracted about 5,000 runners.
A total of ₦30 million in prize money will be shared among leading elite athletes and eligible Ekiti indigenes, providing incentives for high-level performance while creating opportunities for homegrown athletes to gain recognition and advance their careers.
The organisers said the race will continue to place strong emphasis on athlete welfare, safety, professional organisation and compliance with international standards, following commendations for the 2025 edition over its organisation, athlete welfare and prompt payment of prize money.
The scenic 17.5km route from Ilawe-Ekiti to the Ikogosi Warm Springs Resort will also serve as a platform to showcase Ekiti’s natural attractions, culture and infrastructure. With thousands of runners, officials, spectators and visitors expected, hotels, restaurants, transport operators, traders, artisans and other small and medium-scale businesses are expected to benefit from increased economic activity.
The marathon is also expected to create opportunities for young people in event management, hospitality, logistics, media, security and sports services, while providing a platform for grassroots talent discovery and youth engagement.
With participation projected to rise from approximately 5,000 runners in 2025 to 8,000 this year, organisers are confident that the 2026 edition will establish a new benchmark for the race and further position Ekiti as an emerging destination for sports tourism.
Registration for the 2026 Ikogosi Marathon is free and officially open. The race will be held on Saturday, October 31, over 17.5km.
