Aribo missing for the fifth straight Premier League game, Onuachu benched
It seems this is not the best of time for Nigeria midfielder, Joe Aribo after he was left out of Southampton’s Matchweek 27 Premier League against Brentford Wednesday evening at Saint Mary’s stadium.
Aribo, who joined Southampton from Scottish Premiership side, Rangers last July has not made his new club’s matchday squad for the fifith consecutive Premier League game.
The 26 year old has found playing time hard to come by after the departure of Ralph Hasenhuttl last November and has only featured five times in 11 Premier League games after the Austrian’s departure.
He started just one of the five games while under Hasenhuttl he featured 13 times, starting in 10 of the games.
The Nigerian has not featured for the relegation battlers since he played for 11 minutes in Southampton’s 2-1 loss to Wolves at the Saint Mary’s stadium in February. He has missed the club’s next Premier League games which includes Wednesday’s tie with Brentford.
Things aren’t as rosy either for newcomer Paul Onuachu who was named on the bench for the third consecutive Premier League game.He started in his first three Premier League games following his switch from Belgian Pro League side, KRC Genk but has been named on the bench in the following three games.
