Osimhen: I had my face reconstructed after horror injury

Victor Osimhen has revealed he underwent facial reconstruction surgery and had a mask specially designed for him after suffering a horror injury.

The Napoli striker is enjoying a fine season in Serie A, scoring 21 times in 23 games to top the top goalscorer’s chart.

The Nigerian is also leading Napoli with his goals, 25 in all in 29 appearances, to their first Scudetto in 33 years and a possible UEFA Champions League win.

Osimhen has donned a face mask since he clattered into Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar last season.

“With Skriniar it was like receiving a blow to the face. Ten minutes later, I got up and was taken to the hospital,’ Osimhen told L’Equipe.

“The doctor asked me how I could continue standing. I didn’t want to have surgery, but they had to reconstruct my face.
“They passed through my mouth, it was very complicated and for two months I had a part of my head as if asleep.

“Little by little, and thanks to the doctors, everything returned to normal.
“They invented a mask for me and the side that protects my wound is very hard. I’m not afraid anymore”.
