Ese Brume on the threshold of first Diamond League final appearance

Ese Brume must be in Xiamen, China early next month to compete in the long jump event if she is desirous of competing in her first Diamond League final scheduled to hold in Eugene, Oregon, USA on September 16 and 17.

The Nigerian who placed fourth in the long jump event at the 19th World Athletics Championships which ends on Sunday in Budapest, Hungary is currently seventh in the Long Jump standing, one point behind reigning Olympic champion, Mihambo Malaika.

With Malaika likely to miss the trip to Xiamen and Oregon due to the injury that stopped her from defending her world title in Budapest, Brume will move into the final qualifying spot.

The African record holder can only quarantee her participation in the Diamond League final if she competes in Xiamen as she is just a point above the duo of Burks Quanesha of the USA and Jazmin Sawyers of Great Britain.

Brume only needs to place not lower than fourth in Xiamen to confirm her trip to the Hayward Field, the stadium where she won a silver medal at the World Athletics Championships last year.

Tobi Amusan has already secured her ticket to Oregon and she is looking to become the second woman after Dawn Nelson-Harper to win the 100m hurdles title three times consecutively.

Brume will be seeking to become the first Nigerian field eventer to win a Diamond League discipline.
