Tebogo: ‘I am in the right shape for top performances’

Lestsile Tebogo says he is happy the Paris Olympics is just a matter of weeks away after winning the 200m event at the EBS Herculis Diamond League meeting in Monaco on Friday.

The Botswana star, medalist in the 100m and 200m event at the 2023 World Athletics Championships ran 19.87 to win the race, his third sub 20 seconds performance over the distance this season.

The race was meant to be a duel between him and reigning world 200m champion, Noah Lyles but the American withdrew two days to the event, leaving the Botswana athlete to battle for the top position and prize money with a few rising stars like Uganda’s Tarsis Gracious Orogot who ran 20.32 to place third and Dominican Republic’s Ogando Alexander who ran 20.20 for second.

A delighted Tebogo hinted of a titanic battle for the 200m medals at the Olympics.

‘The race was perfect, we just shut it down and went to the line. I believe I am in the right shape for top performances, it´s good that the Olympics come about,’ said Tebogo who wants to stay healthy for the Olympics.

‘The race and crowd were really amazing. Now we just need to get to the Olympics with a healthy body,’ he added in his post race interview.
