FIBA U18 Afrobasket: J’Tigers beat Uganda 72-61, face Mali in quarterfinals

Nigeria’s J’Tigers are through to the quarterfinals of the FIBA U18 Afrobasket in Pretoria, South Africa.

The J’Tigers won their second game of the tournament on Tuesday afternoon, defeating Uganda 72-61 to grab the ticket as one of the third best placed teams in the competition albeit the teams in group are tied on five points.

The J’Tigers won the first three quarters 21-15, 19-11 and 17-15 but lost the fourth and final quarter 20-15.

The Nigerians will now play Mali who defeated Cote d’Ivoire 73-69 to top group A with six points after winning all three games.

The game will be played on Thursday in Pretoria, South Africa.

Apart from the tournament producing who will become African champions in the U18 category, it also serves as a qualification tournament to the FIBA Under-19 Basketball World Cup, where the top two teams directly qualify.
