Lookman hits brace on 90th Atalanta appearance, moves clear of Martins as third Nigerian Serie A top scorer

Ademola Lookman scored his second brace of the season and on his 90th game for Atalanta who defeated Napoli 3-0 at the Diego Armando Maradona stadium in Naples on Sunday afternoon.

The Nigerian scored on 10 and 31 minutes to give the Bergamo-based side a 2-0 first half lead to take his total goals haul for the season to six in eight Serie A games so far this term.

Lookman broke the deadlock after he was flicked on by Charles De Ketelaere and the 27-year-old hit a volley from the tightest of angles.

Atalanta doubled their lead on 31 minutes when De Ketelaere’s counterattack and cross-field pass found Lookman who cut inside Giovanni Di Lorenzo and fired a right-foot scorcher from outside the box.

Lookman has now scored four goals in five games against the Partenopei, the joint most he has scored against a team in the Serie A.

The 27-year-old has now netted 30 times in the competition in 70 appearances to move clear of Obafemi Martins as the third most prolific Nigerian in the history of the Serie A and just four behind Simy Nwankwo who is in second place while Victor Osimhen still tops the scoring chart with 65 goals in 108 appearances.
