Iheanacho now needs to score against Real Madrid or end 2024 without a league goal

Kelechi Iheanacho was on from the start but fired blank in Sevilla’s 1-0 defeat of Celta Vigo at the Estadio R. Sanchez Pizjuan on Saturday evening.

The 28 year old has not only failed to score in the LaLiga since he joined Sevilla as a free agent in July, he has also not scored in any league match since he netted Leicester City’s 3-1 defeat of Swansea City in October 2023.

The Nigerian, who has scored three goals in two Cup games (Copa del Rey), returned to coach Garcia Pimienta’s starting line up since early November when he featured for 73 minutes in his club’s 1-0 loss at CD Leganes.

He was on the pitch for 46 minutes against Celta Vigo before he was subbed off for Alvaro Pascual. He has neither scored nor provided any assist in the nine LaLiga appearances he has made.

Iheanacho will now have to score when Sevilla visit the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu to face Real Madrid in the final LaLiga game of 2024.
