Boniface returns, set for 50th game for Bayer Leverkusen
Victor Boniface has returned to team training for Bayer Leverkusen ahead of Tuesday night’s UEFA Champions League game against Atletico Madrid.
The Nigerian was out injured with a thigh injury since the November international break but looks set to return to action Tuesday night after he was named in his club’s squad for the trip to Madrid.
This much Bayer Leverkusen coach, Xabi Alonso confirmed at the pre-match press conference on Monday.
‘Victor felt good in the final training session this afternoon. He has travelled with us and he will be in the squad tomorrow,’ said Alonso.
If he plays, it will his 50th game for the reigning German Bundesliga champion since he joined July 2023 from Belgian Pro League side, Union Saint-Gilloise.
Boniface has scored 20 goals in 33 Bundesliga appearances, one goal in three UEFA Champions League games, five goals in eight Europa League matches, two goals in four DFB-Pokal appearances and one goal in his only appearance in the DFL-Supercup.
It will also mean the Nigerian has played at least 50 games for all the clubs he has featured for in Europe viz FK Bodø/Glimt where he scored 23 goals in 66 appearances and 17 goals in 51 appearances for Union Saint-Gilloise.
