Nigeria Returns to CAF A-License Coaching Programme After Nine-Year Gap
Nigeria has resumed the CAF A-License coaching programme after a nine-year hiatus, with 25 top-flight coaches commencing an intensive two-module course in Abuja on Monday.
The programme marks Nigeria’s return to the CAF A-License Convention and represents the first time the country has hosted the elite coaching course since 2017.
The latest cohort comprises coaches from Nigeria’s various national teams as well as clubs in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) and Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL).
The first module, which combines theoretical and practical sessions, will run for five days in the Federal Capital Territory, with Acting General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Dr Emmanuel Ikpeme, scheduled to formally declare the course open on Wednesday.
The second and concluding module is scheduled to take place next month.
While Nigeria has not organised a CAF A-License course in the past nine years, the NFF has continued to conduct coaching programmes at the D, C and B levels.
In 2025, the federation also organised an exclusive CAF C-License programme for women, comprising three modules delivered over three months.
The return of the CAF A-License course is expected to provide Nigeria’s top-level coaches with advanced training and further strengthen the country’s technical capacity at both national-team and domestic-club levels.
