Tanzania ready to defy the odds at AFCON 2025, says head coach Suleiman

Taifa Stars of Tanzania head coach Hamed ‘Morocco’ Suleiman has assured he and his men are ready to defy all the odds at the 35th Africa Cup of Nations which starts later this year in Morocco.

The Tanzanians were drawn against Nigeria, Tunisia and Uganda in group C of the tournament and a lot of Tanzanians believe the Taifa Stars are in a group of death, but Suleiman is confident he can rewrite the story of their fourth AFCON appearance this time around.

Suleiman, nicknamed Morocco told the The Citizens newspapers that Taifa Stars are among the strong teams on the continent, and they will train hard aiming to do their best at the finals.

‘Basically, there is no easy group in the competition. We need t show our prowess as one of the strong teams on the continent. We need to have confidence as a nation that we can achieve the best results,’ he was reported to have said.

Nigeria and Tanzania have met three times in official competitions matches with Nigeria winning two and drawing the other one.

In the group stage of the 1980 AFCON, Nigeria won 3-1. Later that year, Nigeria also claimed a 2-0 victory in a World Cup qualifier. The third game ended in a draw in December 1980.
