FIFA Ranking: Eagles drop to lowest ranking in Africa in seven months as Morocco move to 12th best in the World
The Super Eagles have risen from 44th to 43rd in the world but dropped from fifth to sixth in Africa following the update on the FIFA Rankings released on Thursday.
The Nigerians won one and drew the second of their two FIFA 2026 World Cup qualifiers under consideration moved them up a step, but it was not enough to move them up in Africa following Cote d’Ivoire’s 100% record in the same FIFA 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Reigning African champion, Cote d’Ivoire not only moved two places above Nigeria as the 41st best in the World but also supplanted the Super Eagles as the fifth best playing nation in the continent.
The last time the Super Eagles ranked below five in Africa was September last year when they were ranked sixth.
Meanwhile, the Atlas Lion of Morocco remain Africa’s most ranked team after moving up two places up as the 12th best football playing nation in the world.
Egypt, who also won their two World Cup qualifying games also moved up from 33rd in the world to 32nd and retain their third position in Africa behind Morocco and the Teranga Lions of Senegal.
The Senegalese dropped two places to 19th in the World following their goalless draw away at Sudan before beating Togo 2-0 in Dakar in their World Cup qualifying games.
Algeria complete the African top five as they moved up a place to 36th in the world.
