The Centurion! NFF To Honour Moses Simon as Super Eagles Star Eyes 100th Cap

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has concluded plans to honour Super Eagles forward Moses Simon if he makes his 100th senior international appearance against Madagascar in Friday’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Uyo.

Simon made his Super Eagles debut on March 25, 2015, and has since accumulated 99 caps, scoring 12 goals.

The Nantes forward has featured in 64 competitive matches and 35 friendlies for Nigeria. He has also played 23 matches at the Africa Cup of Nations and 22 FIFA World Cup qualifying games.

Nigeria have won 49 of the 99 matches in which Simon has featured, drawing 30 and losing 20.

One of Simon’s early highlights for the Super Eagles came during the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign against Swaziland, now Eswatini.

After Nigeria were held to a goalless draw in Mbabane, the Eagles needed a home victory in Port Harcourt to progress in the qualifying race.

With the match heading towards a tense finish, Simon broke the deadlock with a 22-yard direct free-kick before Nigeria went on to win 2-0.

NFF Acting General Secretary Dr Emmanuel Ikpeme described Simon as a dedicated servant of Nigerian football and praised his commitment to the national team.

‘I can testify that Moses Simon is an incredible player and a wonderful human being, having related with him at close quarters for several years,’ Ikpeme said on Thursday.

‘He is a patriot to the core, and forever passionate and dedicated to the Nigeria cause. The NFF celebrates him on this special occasion and wish him many more caps with the Super Eagles.’

Simon will become the latest Nigerian to reach the 100-cap landmark if he is selected against Madagascar at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium.
