Victor Boniface has headed back to Germany as AC Milan continues to weigh the risks of signing the Bayer Leverkusen striker amid lingering fitness concerns, according to Football Italia.
The 24-year-old Nigerian international underwent medical evaluations with the Rossoneri over the weekend, but doubts surrounding the condition of his right knee have prompted Milan to delay finalizing the deal.
Boniface also missed several matches last season due to recurring muscle issues, adding to the club’s caution.
Despite having impressed in past encounters, his injury history has cast a shadow over the potential transfer.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Milan may ultimately walk away from the negotiations. However, there’s still a possibility that the club could sign Boniface along with another striker before the summer transfer window closes, as reported by Sky Sport Italia.
Milan’s sporting director, Igli Tare, addressed the situation on Saturday:
‘There were no extra medicals. We knew he had problems in the past. We’re evaluating everything as planned regarding his health and fitness. His qualities are undoubted; we’re simply trying to make the right decision.’
