‘Try to make it to my level before you insult me’: Boniface Blasts Critics, Speaks Out After AC Milan Move Collapses
Victor Boniface has broken his silence following the collapse of his anticipated transfer to AC Milan, revealing that lingering injury concerns were the reason behind the failed move.
The Nigerian striker, who currently plays for Bayer Leverkusen, was set to join Milan on an initial loan with an option to buy. However, the deal fell through after medical tests flagged issues related to his injury history.
‘The move didn’t work out because of my past injuries,’ Boniface told Punch in his first public comments since the breakdown. ‘I had a knee injury twice on my right leg, and it has been there for a long time.’
Boniface underwent knee surgeries in 2019 and 2020 and missed several matches during the 2024/25 season due to recurring muscle problems. Despite criticism from fans over his fitness record, the 24-year-old fired back:
‘Try to make it to my level before you insult me.’
Boniface was last seen in action during Leverkusen’s Champions League clash against Milan on October 1, 2024, where he scored the opening goal. He also featured in Bundesliga matches as recently as April 2025 and resumed training in July.
Boniface remains under contract with Bayer Leverkusen until June 2028. Since joining the Bundesliga side, he has netted 32 goals in 61 appearances and played a key role in their 2023–24 domestic title win under manager Xabi Alonso.
