NFF clarifies use of FIFA and CAF funds, says monies strictly project-based and audited
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has reaffirmed that all funds received from FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) are strictly allocated for specific projects and purposes, not discretionary gifts.
In response to misleading claims circulating on social media suggesting the Federation ‘collects’ millions of dollars annually from FIFA, the NFF emphasized that such assertions misrepresent the nature of these funds.
Each disbursement from FIFA or CAF is earmarked for particular initiatives, and both organizations conduct annual audits to ensure compliance.
Funds designated for development are tied to clearly defined programs, while allocations under the FIFA Forward initiative follow rigorous financial protocols. These include strict adherence to regulations, continuous monitoring, and multi-stage auditing.
For example, the ongoing construction of the NFF/FIFA Players’ Hostel and new training pitches at the MKO Abiola National Stadium are subject to detailed oversight. Every phase of the project is verified and approved before additional funds are released, directly to FIFA-approved consultants.
The NFF also addressed the actions of individuals spreading false financial figures online, noting that such mischief stems from a lack of understanding of the actual costs involved in organizing national team matches.
As a responsible organization, the NFF operates under globally recognized financial standards. Its accounts are audited by PriceWaterhouseCoopers, a firm renowned for integrity and credibility, and these reports are presented annually to the Congress during the General Assembly.
