Berbatov: Chelsea Could Surprise Arsenal in Premier League Title Race

Dimitar Berbatov has urged caution over Arsenal’s growing lead at the top of the Premier League, insisting the title race is far from decided and warning that Chelsea could yet emerge as surprise challengers.

Arsenal tightened their grip on first place with a 4-1 demolition of Tottenham in the North London derby, moving six points clear of the chasing pack. The Gunners, who have finished runners-up in each of the past three seasons, now look well placed to end their 22-year wait for a league crown.

Berbatov, however, believes the festive fixture schedule will provide the real test of Mikel Arteta’s side.

The former Manchester United striker, who won the Premier League twice, told ESPN that Arsenal’s current cushion is ‘nothing’ in a league where momentum can shift quickly. He argued that while Liverpool are struggling and Manchester City have dropped points, Chelsea’s resurgence under Enzo Maresca should not be overlooked.

The Blues, fresh from lifting the Club World Cup, have won five of their last six league games to climb into second place.

Chelsea legend John Terry has also talked up his former club’s chances, declaring that the upcoming clash with Arsenal at Stamford Bridge could prove pivotal.

Terry said the fixture may not be a title decider but believes it will showcase the two teams most likely to contest the crown.

He dismissed Liverpool’s hopes entirely, pointing to their poor form, and praised Chelsea’s defensive resilience in their recent win over Burnley, though he admitted they must be more clinical against stronger opponents.
