Eberechi Eze Crowned Premier League Matchweek 12 Player of the Week
Arsenal’s Eberechi Eze has been crowned Player of the Matchweek for Matchweek 12 after producing a sensational performance in the north London derby.
The midfielder struck a stunning hat-trick in Arsenal’s 4-1 demolition of Tottenham Hotspur, becoming the first player ever to score three goals in a Premier League north London derby and only the fourth in history to achieve the feat across all competitions.
Eze, who joined Arsenal from Crystal Palace in August after being linked with Spurs, delivered two goals either side of half-time before completing his treble with a composed finish past Guglielmo Vicario in the 76th minute.
His display not only secured Arsenal’s joint-biggest Premier League victory over their rivals but also marked his first senior hat-trick in English football.
The 27-year-old England international dominated the fan vote, collecting a record 61 per cent to finish well ahead of Nottingham Forest defender Murillo on 11 per cent. Other nominees included Jordan Pickford, Andrey Santos, Harvey Barnes, Alphonse Areola, Morgan Rogers and Yeremy Pino, but none came close to Eze’s commanding tally.
Arsenal’s triumph means the Player of the Matchweek award has now been shared among six different clubs this season, with the Gunners joining Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur in producing winners.
Previous recipients include Jeremy Doku, Moises Caicedo, Bryan Mbeumo, Harry Maguire, Erling Haaland, Ryan Gravenberch, Lucas Bergvall, Dominik Szoboszlai, Joao Palhinha and Richarlison.
