Moffi Ready to Lead Super Eagles Against Portugal

The Super Eagles of Nigeria will face Portugal in a high-profile international friendly on Wednesday, June 10, as part of Portugal’s final preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The match, scheduled for Leiria, will also serve as an important test for Nigeria ahead of their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.

Nigeria arrive in excellent form under head coach Eric Chelle, having extended their unbeaten run in regulation time to eleven matches.

The team recently secured a 2-0 victory over Zimbabwe, a 3-0 win against Jamaica in the Unity Cup final, and a thrilling 2-2 draw against Poland.

Former Porto striker Terem Moffi has been Nigeria’s standout performer this summer, contributing two goals and two assists in three appearances since returning to the national team after a seven-month absence. Speaking to TVC News, Moffi expressed his delight at being back with the squad:

‘It’s been a long time since I have been with the Super Eagles and I’m just happy to be here playing football again, scoring goals, helping the team, helping my teammates. It’s always a pleasure being here.’

Moffi, who won the Primeira Liga title with FC Porto in the 2025/2026 season, emphasized that his experience in Portuguese football could prove valuable against the European side:

‘I’ll try my best to lead the team as much as I can. I played in the Portuguese league and won the championship with FC Porto, although I only spent half a season there. I know a little about how the Portuguese national team play and how their players play.’

Nigeria will also benefit from the presence of Bruno Onyemaechi and Zaidu Sanusi, both of whom have featured in the Portuguese Primeira Liga.
