AFCON 2025: Lookman hails Osimhen link-up after Tunisia win

Ademola Lookman was named Man of the Match after Nigeria’s thrilling 3-2 victory over Tunisia in Fez, a result that sealed the Super Eagles’ place in the Round of 16 at the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Morocco 2025.
‘We are pleased with the performance today, three points on board, that is most important. We take the positives and carry on. Victor is a good striker, and we have a good relationship and make the most of that.
‘Anywhere I can help the team I do. I now play closer to goal, which gives me more chance to hurt the opponent and I am happy with that,’ Lookman said afterwards.
The Atalanta forward produced a standout display with two assists and a goal. His pinpoint delivery from the left picked out Victor Osimhen, who rose powerfully to head home the opener just before halftime.
It was a continuation of their growing understanding, with two of the three assists Lookman has registered in his nine AFCON appearances now set up for Osimhen.
Nigeria doubled their lead four minutes after the restart when captain Wilfred Ndidi nodded in a Lookman corner. The 2024 CAF African Player of the Year then capped his performance in the 66th minute, rifling home from inside the box after a clever cut-back by Osimhen.
Tunisia fought back through Montassar Talbi’s header and Ali Abdi’s penalty, but Nigeria held firm to secure a second successive win, moving to six points and top of Group C.
