Impeccable Super Eagles Soar Over Algeria, Set Up Semis Clash With Morocco

The Super Eagles of Nigeria delivered one of their finest performances of the ongoing AFCON 2025, defeating previously unbeaten Algeria 2–0 to book a semi-final showdown with host nation Morocco.
After a tense first half, Nigeria finally found the breakthrough in the 47th minute. Victor Osimhen rose highest to head home a pinpoint cross from Bruno Onyemaechi, giving the Eagles a deserved lead. The goal came shortly after Nigeria had been denied by VAR, which ruled that the ball had not fully crossed the line.
On resumption of the second half, Osimhen turned provider. The Gaatasaray striker set up Akor Adams, who has impressed in his debut AFCON campaign, to score his second goal of the tournament in the 57th minute.
The strike doubled Nigeria’s advantage and effectively sealed the win against a resilient Algerian side.
The result carries extra significance for Nigeria, who were heartbreakingly eliminated by Algeria in the 2019 AFCON semi-final courtesy of a last-minute free-kick from Riyad Mahrez.
This time, the Eagles ensured there was no repeat, showing composure and tactical discipline to secure a famous victory.
With momentum firmly on their side, the Super Eagles now turn their attention to a semi-final clash against Morocco, the host nation, in what promises to be another high-stakes battle.
