Player of the Match Jesus says: ‘It’s a dream night’
Gabriel Jesus described Arsenal’s 3-1 victory over Inter Milan as “a dream night” after his brace helped the Gunners set a new club record of seven consecutive Champions League wins.
The Brazilian striker, who was named Player of the Match by UEFA’s Technical Observer Group for his performance, admitted the occasion was deeply emotional.
‘It’s a dream night. I always dreamed of being a footballer. I watched a lot of Serie A when I was a kid, so to be here in this stadium and score here is tears in my eyes because I always dreamed of being here,’ Jesus told Amazon Prime.
UEFA’s panel praised his impact, noting: ‘He scored twice, worked hard and created one big chance.’
Reflecting on his journey back from injury, Jesus added: ‘There is always a reason that things happen, whether it’s good things or difficult things. I learned that during my 11 months out of the field.’
He acknowledged the challenge of facing Inter, recalling last season’s defeat in Milan.
‘It is always difficult to play against Inter Milan. Tonight we played better than them, we controlled them but they are a top team and they attack. We scored at the end and got the three points. We have to keep going because we have another one at the weekend.’
Jesus also praised his teammates, including substitute Victor Gyökeres, who scored Arsenal’s third goal.
‘Everyone wants to start. I am a very respectful guy. I am not a kid anymore, I am 28, so I understand football. I am very happy Vik came on and scored a goal. I am so happy I scored and Vik scored. I am confident Kai will score when he gets the chance.’
The striker has now reached 10 goal involvements in the Champions League for Arsenal in just 15 appearances (six goals and four assists). Only Andrey Arshavin (8), Alexis Sánchez (12), and Bukayo Saka (13) have achieved that milestone in fewer games for the club.
