Fenerbahce End 18-Year Champions League Wait With Liverpool Win
Greenwood, Brown, Muriqi Fire Hosts To 3-2 Comeback Victory

Fenerbahce ended an 18-year wait for a victory in the UEFA Champions League with a thrilling 3-2 win over Liverpool at the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium on Wednesday.
The Turkish side twice came from behind before Vedat Muriqi’s 79th-minute header completed a memorable comeback and handed Liverpool their first defeat in this season’s competition.
Liverpool took the lead in the 25th minute through Trey Nyoni, who reacted quickest to turn home Dominik Szoboszlai’s delivery after Archie Brown failed to clear the cross.
Fenerbahce responded four minutes later when Mason Greenwood’s free-kick took a deflection off the Liverpool wall and wrong-footed goalkeeper Alisson Becker.
The hosts threatened again before the break, with Greenwood forcing Alisson into a save, but both sides went into half-time level at 1-1.
Liverpool regained the lead in the 69th minute when Alexander Isak converted Cody Gakpo’s delivery from the left.
However, Fenerbahce hit back four minutes later. Brown capitalised on a loose ball after N’Golo Kante’s intervention to fire into an unguarded net and restore parity.
The home side completed the turnaround in the 79th minute as Brown delivered from the right and Muriqi rose to head past Alisson.
The victory lifted Fenerbahce to five points after four matches, while Liverpool remained on nine points following their first defeat in the competition this season.
Fenerbahce will travel to face Shakhtar Donetsk in their next Champions League fixture, while Liverpool visit Club Brugge.
