Aina Defends Osimhen’s Intensity, Calls Him True Number Nine

Nottingham Forest defender Ola Aina has praised Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen for his relentless work ethic and passion on the pitch. Speaking about his teammate, Aina described the Galatasaray forward as a player who channels his emotions directly into his performances, calling him a true number nine and a top scorer.

Osimhen was one of Nigeria’s standout performers at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, scoring four goals and providing two assists to help the Super Eagles secure a third-place finish.

His fiery outburst towards Ademola Lookman during Nigeria’s 4-0 win over Mozambique drew criticism from fans and ex-internationals, but Aina, who missed the tournament through injury, suggested that such intensity is part of Osimhen’s character and playing style.

‘Victor Osimhen, he knows how to chase a ball you know, he is a number nine, he wears his heart on his sleeves, he works hard,’ Aina said, highlighting the striker’s determination and drive.

Osimhen’s performances were further recognized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), which named him in the AFCON 2025 Best XI alongside teammates Calvin Bassey and Ademola Lookman, as well as players from Senegal and Morocco.
