Osimhen Proud of Super Eagles’ AFCON 2025 Revival, says ‘More to Come’
Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has promised Nigerian football fans that the team’s resurgence at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations is only the beginning of greater achievements to come.
Nigeria, who missed out on qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, set their sights on winning a fourth continental crown in Morocco.
Although they fell short of that target, the Eagles secured a bronze medal after defeating Egypt in the third-place playoff.
More significantly, under coach Eric Chelle, the team delivered some of the most entertaining football of the tournament, scoring a competition-high 14 goals and becoming the only side to win five consecutive matches.
Osimhen was central to that success, netting four goals and providing two assists to earn a place in CAF’s Best XI alongside compatriots Ademola Lookman and Calvin Bassey.
Reflecting on the campaign, the Galatasaray forward expressed pride in the team’s performance and gratitude to the fans.
‘We’ve been able to win lots of our fans to our side to make them believe that their support has not gone unnoticed and we’ve seen it. They were the reason we were fighting on the pitch, giving everything, to make sure we win,’ Osimhen said.
‘I’m proud of the team, I’m proud of the performance. Some amazing comments from people that really watched football, people that know about football. For us, it is something to be proud of.
‘A lot of our fans had given up on this team and I’m really happy that with unity and the idea of the coaches, we’ve been able to put smiles on the faces of the people and our fans and I’m really happy and from where this came from, there is really more to come.’
