FSF to pay $715,000 fine, covers Thiaw and players’ penalties
The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) has officially responded to the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) disciplinary verdict following the chaotic 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final in Morocco, confirming it will not appeal the sanctions.
CAF’s disciplinary committee fined the FSF a total of $715,000 (approximately €603,000) for incidents including attempted pitch invasions by supporters and the temporary withdrawal of players during the final at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.
In a statement released on Saturday, the FSF said it had ‘taken note of the decision’ and resolved not to contest the penalties.
‘After analyzing the said decision, the FSF notified the continental body of its desire not to appeal the sporting and financial sanctions imposed on it,’ the federation declared.
The governing body explained that its decision was motivated by a desire to uphold CAF regulations and protect the integrity of African football.
‘This abandonment is justified by the intention of complying with the strict respect of its statutory obligations, thus working to promote CAF regulations, the integrity of the game and the influence of African football,’ the statement added.
The FSF also confirmed it would cover the fines imposed on coach Pape Thiaw and players Ismaïla Sarr and Iliman Ndiaye, who were sanctioned for their direct involvement in the scuffles.
‘Pursuant to the provisions of Article 91.4 of the CAF Disciplinary Code, the Senegalese Football Federation confirms that it assumes full financial responsibility for the fines imposed on its association, its technical staff and its players,’ the statement read.
Thiaw was fined $100,000 (€84,357), though he recently declined an online fundraiser launched by fans to help pay the penalty.
