UK Tabloid: Anthony Joshua’s SUV Driver Was Sacked in 2024 for Crashing into Ditch

GIVEMESPORT has reported that Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, the driver involved in the December 29, 2025 crash along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway that killed Anthony Joshua’s two close friends, had previously been dismissed in 2024 for a similar accident.

Joshua, a two-time heavyweight champion, was travelling with Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele in a black Lexus SUV when Kayode lost control, reportedly due to a burst tyre, and collided with a stationary lorry. Ghami and Ayodele died instantly, while Joshua survived with minor injuries and was later discharged from hospital.

Quoting The Sun on Sunday, the report revealed that Kayode had earlier crashed an Infiniti QX56 in October 2024 while driving his boss.

A source said: ‘Kayode had been employed for a number of weeks. He was very attentive. He always took the bags and opened doors. He was very polite. But on one trip, they were in a village, and suddenly he went into the ditch.

‘There was no reason that was obvious to cause the accident. He drove over a gutter on the side of the road when it was totally avoidable. After that, he wasn’t trusted to pay attention properly. He was sacked for being ‘absent-minded’.’

The source added: ‘Nobody was hurt, but the car had a nasty dent and scratch at the front of it, and two tyres were punctured.’

Kayode is currently facing prosecution at Sagamu Magistrates Court in Ogun State for reckless driving. He appeared in court on January 20, with the case adjourned until February 25, 2026, to allow prosecutors more time to seek legal advice.
