‘He can go to Turkey when he’s 35’: Oliseh insists Lookman right to shun Super Lig

Former Super Eagles captain Sunday Oliseh has maintained that Ademola Lookman stands to benefit a lot over his to move to Atletico Madrid than a likely transfer to the Turkish Super Lig.

Lookman completed his €40million move from Atalanta to the Spanish giants this week.

However, there are reports that Fenerbahce offered Lookman €7.5million per-year; more money than Atletico, with the Turkish giants initially reaching agreement with Atalanta for the former African footballer of the year before Atletico swooped for him.

Fenerbahce failed to hatch their plan to sign the 28-year-old for failing to present payment guarantees for the deal.

Speaking on his Global Football Insight on YouTube, Oliseh said Lookman made the right career decision to move to one of the top five leagues in Europe.

The 1994 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) winner also insisted that the Nigeria international will make a lot of money at the Spanish capital club.

He said the winger could still move to the Turkish league or Saudi Arabia at the twilight of his career.

“We are all professionals, and we want money. However, the mistake people make is in considering only the money he’s going to make in one year. This man didn’t sign for just one year; he signed for several years,” he said.

“There are other types of financial benefits that come into play that you might not hear about in the contract. You’re only hearing about wages. Your image rights are generally higher when you’re playing in the Spanish league compared to the Turkish league.

“Him moving to that league is more important for his football career than just money. At this stage of his career, what he should be pursuing is titles and consistent income.

“Make money consistently and win titles. At the end of the day, he can always go to the Turkish league when he is 32 or 35. He can also go to the Saudi Arabian league, with all due respect, when he is 35. Ronaldo is there, and he is 40.”
