Udeze: Super Falcons Face Tough WAFCON Defense in Morocco
Former Nigeria international Ifeanyi Udeze has warned that the Super Falcons may struggle to defend their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) crown in Morocco next month.
The Falcons, who clinched their 10th continental title in Morocco last year after a dramatic 3-2 comeback win against the hosts, will return to the North African nation to begin their title defense.
In that memorable final, Justin Madugu’s side overturned a two-goal deficit in the second half with strikes from Esther Okoronkwo, Folashade Ijamilusi, and a late winner from substitute Jennifer Echegini.
Nigeria, drawn in Group C alongside Egypt, Malawi, and Zambia, will kick off their campaign against Malawi on March 18, 2026.
While goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie has emphasized that the team will approach the tournament ‘one game at a time,’ Udeze expressed doubts about their chances, insisting that Morocco will be desperate to secure their first-ever WAFCON title.
‘It will not be easy for them to defend that title. It will not be easy but they will still try to defend the title,’ he said on Brila FM.
With South Africa, Zambia, and Morocco all considered strong contenders, Udeze believes the Falcons face one of their toughest challenges yet in their quest to extend their dominance in African women’s football.
