Iheanacho Offered to Vasco da Gama Amid Celtic Exit
Nigerian forward Kelechi Iheanacho has reportedly been offered to Brazilian giants Vasco da Gama following the expiry of his contract with Celtic, but the Rio de Janeiro club has turned down the proposal.
Iheanacho, 29, is currently a free agent after his deal with the Scottish champions ended earlier this month.
While he spent much of last season on the fringes, the former Manchester City and Leicester striker played a crucial role in the closing weeks, delivering key contributions as Celtic secured another domestic triumph.
According to reports from Atencao Vascainos, Iheanacho’s representatives have been exploring options in South America. Host Flavio Dias revealed that the player was put forward as a potential signing, but Vasco’s management, including sporting director Admar Lopes, rejected the offer.
Dias explained: ‘Tonight I received information about a Nigerian 29-year-old striker, a player from Celtic in Scotland: Kelechi Iheanacho. He played for Sevilla, Manchester City, and Leicester. A left-footed, experienced player who scores goals. But there was a ‘no’ from the Vasco management.’
Iheanacho’s future remains uncertain, with no indication yet of fresh negotiations with Celtic. His availability on a free transfer could attract interest from clubs across Europe and beyond, as he seeks the next chapter of his career after a season that ended with flashes of his enduring quality.
