Lookman’s La Liga Debut Ends in Defeat, But Forward Stays Positive

Ademola Lookman’s La Liga debut for Atletico Madrid ended in disappointment, but the Super Eagles forward still found reason to celebrate the occasion.

Lookman had impressed just days earlier in the Copa del Rey quarter-final, starring in Atletico’s emphatic 5-0 win over Real Betis in Seville.

That performance earned him a league debut at the Wanda Metropolitano on Sunday, but Betis struck back with a 1-0 victory.

Former Manchester United winger Antony scored in the 28th minute to seal the win, while Lookman endured a frustrating outing, picking up a booking in the process.

Despite the result, the Nigerian international expressed his delight at making his first La Liga appearance in front of Atletico’s home fans.

‘Not the result we wanted but we stay positive. Very special moment making my debut in the Metropolitano. Aupa Atleti,’ he wrote on X.

Atletico will now turn their focus to Thursday’s Copa del Rey semi-final first leg against Barcelona, a clash that promises to test Lookman and his teammates once again.
