Chelle Moves to Convince Nwaneri on Nigeria Switch

Super Eagles head coach Eric Sekou Chelle is reportedly stepping up efforts to convince Arsenal youngster Ethan Nwaneri to commit his senior international future to Nigeria.

Nwaneri, currently on loan at Olympique Marseille after limited opportunities at Arsenal this season, remains eligible to represent Nigeria, France, or England.

Born in North London, he has so far played for England at youth level, but with his long-term prospects in the Three Lions setup uncertain, Chelle is said to be “monitoring” and “working” to bring him into the Super Eagles fold.

According to reports, Chelle’s recent trip to France after the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations included meetings with Nigerian midfielder Tochukwu Nnadi, and part of his mission is to track Nwaneri’s progress and secure his commitment early before other nations intensify their pursuit.

The 18-year-old attacking midfielder has also hinted at openness to representing Nigeria, acknowledging his roots in a recent interview.

‘Yes, I know. I’m Nigerian, and I am here to help the team as much as possible,’ he said when asked about former Nigerian internationals Taye Taiwo and Wilson Oruma.
