Ajayi, Okon Lead Nigerian Charge at Tiger Paw Invitational
Nigeria’s 60m record holder and World Athletics Championships 100m finalist, Kanyinsola Ajayi, will headline a strong contingent of Nigerian student-athletes competing at the Tiger Paw Invitational this Friday and Saturday at the Clemson Indoor Track and Field Complex in South Carolina.
Ajayi, alongside his schoolmate Israel Okon and Mississippi State University’s Fakorede Adekalu, will contest the men’s 60m event.
The trio made headlines in 2025 when they all dipped under 6.60 seconds for the first time in their career on the same track.
Ajayi clocked 6.57s at the Orange and Purple Invitational in January 2025, before lowering his time to 6.51s at the Tiger Paw Invitational the following month. Okon ran 6.52s at the same meet, while Adekalu posted 6.58s.
All three sprinters are hoping to replicate their blistering form on the Clemson track, with Okon and Adekalu also set to compete in the 200m.
They will be joined by a wider Nigerian contingent across multiple events.
In the women’s 60m, Adetutu Aladeloye (Mississippi State, JR), Faith Osamuyi (Alabama, FR), Moforehan Abinusawa (Penn, SR), and Blessings Ogundiran (Warner) have been confirmed.
In the 400m, Edidiong Udo of Ohio State will make his individual debut, while Adisa Rhoda returns to the track where she set her indoor personal best of 2:08.28 in January
