Kenya’s Ezra Kipchumba Wins 2026 Lagos City Marathon in Personal Best Time

Kenya’s Ezra Kipchumba Kering produced a career-best performance to win the 2026 Access Bank Lagos City Marathon on Saturday, clocking 2:11:55 to claim victory.

Kipchumba, who had set his previous personal record of 2:17:33 in November 2025, shaved nearly six minutes (5 minutes and 38 seconds) off that mark in Lagos to secure one of the biggest wins of his career.

Lomoi Samuel of Uganda finished second in 2:11:59, an improvement on his 2:12:20 lifetime best set in 2019, while Namutala Kephar Lumbasi, the Kenyan who won the Abuja Half Marathon in 2025, took third in 2:12:25.

In the women’s race, Ethiopia’s Dinke Meseret Meleka emerged champion, crossing the line in 2:37:36, one of the slowest runs of her career that saw her set a lifetime best of 2:22:52 in 2022.

Kenya’s Daniel Flomena Cheyech followed just seven seconds behind in 2:37:43, while Ethiopia’s Getaw Wgagen Zewdalem completed the podium in 2:38:59.
