Sevilla Coach Almeyda: Unsure of Best Role for ‘Decisive’ Ejuke

Sevilla coach Matías Almeyda has admitted he is still searching for the best way to use Nigerian winger Chidera Ejuke, describing him as a ‘decisive player’ but one whose role and stamina remain in question.

Ejuke, 28, has not started a La Liga match since November 2025 and has been limited to substitute appearances in recent weeks.

Almeyda explained that the former CSKA Moscow forward has been tested in multiple attacking positions but has yet to fully convince.

‘We’ve tried Ejuke in different positions, both on the left and the right. I think he’s a decisive player in one-on-one situations,’ Almeyda told Eldesmarque. ‘And there’s always that question of whether it’s 90 minutes or just the second half.’

The coach suggested Ejuke’s impact may be best suited to the closing stages of matches, when his dribbling and individual flair can change the game.

‘Once the game is half decided, it’s about creating something extra, like what happened the other day,’ Almeyda added.

Ejuke featured for 45 minutes in Sevilla’s recent draw against Alavés, his longest spell on the pitch since returning from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

He was subbed on on 70 minutes in the 1-1 draw with Deportivo Alaves on Saturday at the Estadio Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán in Seville.
