Onyeka Eyes Winning Start as Coventry Face Middlesbrough Showdown

Coventry City midfielder Frank Onyeka says the team is fully focused on their top-of-the-table clash with Middlesbrough in the English Championship on Monday night.

The Super Eagles defensive midfielder, who joined Coventry on loan from Brentford during the winter transfer window, is expected to make his debut at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

Onyeka, 28, moved to the club in search of more game time after struggling for minutes at Brentford.

Coventry manager Frank Lampard confirmed last Friday that the Nigerian is ready to feature, having been given time off to welcome his first child with his wife.

Speaking ahead of the game, Onyeka, who won bronze with Nigeria at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, acknowledged the magnitude of the fixture.

With Coventry sitting second in the Championship table, just two points behind Middlesbrough, victory would see them reclaim top spot.

‘It is a big game, I know Middlesbrough, they could have won the last game. We are doing everything we can to focus on the game because obviously it is a big game and whoever wins stays on top,’ Onyeka said.

‘For us, we are just focused on ourselves, we know it is going to be a very intense game.’
