NIS Decentralized: Six Zones Set for April Academic Kickoff
The National Institute for Sports (NIS) has officially commenced operations across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, marking a historic milestone in the nation’s sports development.
With centers now active in Edo (South-South), Enugu (South-East), Ogun (South-West), Plateau (North-Central), Adamawa (North-East), and Kaduna (North-West), the institute is poised to transform sports education and training nationwide.

According to the Director General and Chief Executive Officer of NIS, Comrade Philip Shaibu, the decentralization of the institute reflects a strategic partnership with state governors to ensure that talent identification, youth empowerment, and sports development reach every corner of Nigeria.
Shaibu, the immediate past Deputy Governor of Edo State, emphasized that the initiative is not only a triumph for NIS but also a testament to President Tinubu’s vision of using sports as a unifying tool and a driver of economic diversification.
