University of Ibadan to Host 8th FASU Afro-Varsity 3×3 Basketball Challenge

The Federation of African University Sports (FASU) has confirmed that the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, will host the 8th edition of the Afro-Varsity 3×3 Basketball Challenge from May 28 to June 1, 2026.

Now in its eighth year, the tournament continues to unite top university basketball teams from across Africa. The 2026 edition marks a milestone for Nigeria as it welcomes one of the continent’s most prestigious student sporting events.

The competition will also serve as a qualification pathway to the FISU 3×3 World Cup, with the top two teams in both the men’s and women’s categories earning the right to represent Africa on the global stage.

Participation is open to registered university students aged 17 to 25, competing on behalf of their institutions. As part of the requirements, all players must hold verified accounts on the FIBA 3×3 platform to secure official ranking points.

Accreditation opens on March 15, 2026, while universities must confirm their participation by May 15, 2026.

Organizers say the event will not only showcase elite student talent but also strengthen collaboration among African universities, provide international exposure for athletes, and reinforce the role of university sports as a pathway to global competition.
